The Pont Adolphe, built at the beginning of the 20th century according to a design by the French engineer P. Sejourne, is named after the Grand Duke. It was the first bridge made of natural stone to be built with such a large span (84m) and is an excellent example of technical skills. The bridge is built on a steep-walled sandstone rock and spans two little rivers, the Alzette and the Petrusse. The construction itself and the beautiful surroundings make the Pont Adolphe one of many delightful sites of this old fortified city.
